How does an improv session work?

START with an introduction to what improv is!

The main rule (never negate), and the benefits of how it can help in any situation. This is especially true when a person needs to think fast on their feet and when dealing with new life events.

Improv helps when life throws us those curve balls!

WARM UPS

Everyone in a circle arms-length apart.  I call out an ACTION word and start.  For example: sports (fishing, swimming, hiking, golf, tennis, etc.), housework (dusting, washing windows, etc.), circus acts (fire eating, juggling, etc.).  Actions can be repeated (because when done by others, it will look and be different; we're all individuals)!

SHORT SCENES

Everyone sits and we work in groups of two to four.  We all raise hands with ideas as to 1) place  2) people-relationship and  3) problem (nothing too serious).  For example: low on money, have to use the restroom, have an appointment, lost library book, etc.

The pairs working together take a few minutes.  They talk about main actions, NOT the lines they will say.  We all listen, laugh and clap but DO NOT snicker, talk or judge. After the working pairs talk for a few moments about how it went and any questions or problems.

END WITH

Another group activity: Large machine - we all enter at a different time, take a place, do an action with a sound and we work together to become that machine.  For example: a car, computer, lawn mower.

I end with a thanks for coming, come back and remember to "KEEP IMPROV IN YOUR LIFE EVERY DAY TO LIVE, LOVE,  AND LAUGH!"
